Update (as of 5/13/2020) from The GVSLL Board of Directors

Dear Goleta Valley South Little League Family,

We are living through a very difficult time and all of us are missing the ‘good old days’ of baseball.  Little League International held a press conference last week and officially shifted resumption plans to fall under each individual state’s mandates.

As with almost everything right now, we have more questions than answers, but we do know that the state of California and Santa Barbara County have not cleared youth baseball to resume.  Unfortunately, this means that the regular season (as we have known it in the past) will not have time to restart.

However, GVSLL does not stop with the conclusion of the regular season.  We will remain open to many modified possibilities, and when vetting those possibilities, we will keep a close eye on safety accommodations that would need to be made, to determine if the integrity and joy of the game would remain, while also making sure the well-being of the League for future seasons is protected.

We will keep you informed every step of the way.  As soon as we know more, you will know more.  Our top priority will remain the safety of the players and families and we will follow the recommendations of our state and local government and health professionals.

Continue to get outdoors, do baseball drills, Zoom with your team, watch baseball highlights, and remember the fun until we can come together again.

We will get through this!

Message from the Board of Directors

Dear GVSLL Family,

We miss you, we miss baseball, and most importantly, we hope all of you are safe and healthy.  As we wait for direction on what is next for our Spring 2020 Baseball Season, we wanted to give a quick update about what we know and what you and your player can be doing while we wait.

The GVSLL Board would like nothing more than to see the kids PLAY!  What that will look like is still up in the air, but GVSLL is open to all possibilities.  Rest assured, we will do everything we can to give the kids an opportunity to play.

We are taking direction from Little League International for recommendations on when the season might resume.  As of now, Little League is still recommending a “Temporary Suspension/Delay of Little League Activities Until May 11.”  In addition to Little League’s recommendation, we will also take direction from medical professionals, government leaders, and other Little League organizations within our direct community, to ensure that we return at a safe and appropriate time.

During this break, the board has been working to maintain the fields and do some exciting improvements.  The new turf mounds arrived and are being installed.  We will be adding in some newly donated benches to increase seating opportunities.  The field will be undergoing its biannual weed abatement.  We will be upping security to keep our facilities safe and clean, and lastly, we have had a chance to identify opportunities to recognize some of our most generous donors and supporters.

In the meantime, what can you do?

  • Please continue to follow along on the progress of Little League recommendations at: https://www.littleleague.org/
  • Stay baseball ready!  There are an abundance of excellent online resources to help keep your athlete practicing and ready for baseball.  Checkout Dick’s Sporting Goods Pro Tips Series.  The ‘Baseball Drills to Try at Home’ article has many general and position-specific baseball drills (with videos) specifically designed to be done at home: https://protips.dickssportinggoods.com/sports-and-activities/baseball/baseball-drills-to-try-at-home
  • Pick up your team baseball pictures!  Our wonderful photographer was able to deliver the pictures that were taken on opening day.  Picking up pictures will be a great way to remind your player of the fun they were having and reconnect them with their team.  Please stay tuned for a separate email with information about picking up your pictures.
  • Pick up your unclaimed Opening Day purchases.  Please contact Julie Kittle ( ).  We want to make sure to get all items out to the lucky bidders :)

We hope to see everyone soon!
